Britney Gets Down With Madonna Again
Britney Spears
is hooking up with Madonna once again — this time for the first single from
her forthcoming album, now titled "Get in the Zone".
Though Spears was coy about what the first single would be when MTV News
talked to her following her NFL Kickoff Live performance, it turns out that
the song she previewed that night, "Me Against the Music," will
indeed be her first released track, featuring Madonna. The duo, of course,
most recently caused controversy when they locked lips at the MTV Video Music
Awards. The single — co-written by Spears and produced by RedZone — ships
to radio on September 30, with a video set to premiere on MTV on October 13.
Get in the Zone will feature 13 tracks in all, seven of which were co-written
by the singer. Some of the tracks slated to be on the album include
"Early Mornin' " (produced by Moby), "Outrageous" (R.
Kelly), "Every Time" (Guy Sigsworth) and "Showdown" (Bloodshy
& Avant).
There's no word yet if the new track Spears unveiled this weekend in Las
Vegas, "Breathe on Me," will also make the final track list. Other
songs that could be included on Get in the Zone are "The Answer" (P.
Diddy), "Shadow" (the Matrix), "Brave New Girl," and
"Touch of My Hand" the latter two of which she previewed for MTV
earlier this year.
Get in the Zone is due out November 18.

Romps On Bed, Loses Her Shirt At Surprise Vegas Show
Britney Spears previewed another new song this
weekend, but instead of broadcasting it to a live audience, she debuted it to
a Las Vegas crowd in a surprise — and steamy — performance.
Spears took the stage at Rain, a nightclub within the Palms hotel-casino, at 1
a.m. Sunday morning. About 1,800 people were in attendance, but they weren't
expecting nor were they charged for a show from Spears — they were just
there to dance. The DJ music stopped, Rain co-owner Scott DeGraff told MTV
News, and people were bewildered as a group of five or six dancers took the
stage, shielding the singer. When she broke out from behind them, the crowd
roared.
"We've done a lot of crazy things," DeGraff said. "This is
going to be a tough one to top. There were an awful lot of celebrities there,
from Dr. J to Michael Keaton, and they were all surprised. Only a very select
group of people knew about it, the ones who had to pull it off."
Spears started her 30-minute set with "Me Against the Music," which
she previously performed at the NFL Kickoff Live concert, and unveiled
"Breathe on Me," both from her still-untitled next album, due
November 18. During her performance, a giant black-and-white daybed lounger
rolled out onstage. Spears and her dancers crawled on the floor to get to it,
and then crawled onto it and each other while pretending to make out. One of
the dancers ripped Spears' top off, exposing her red bra.
"This wasn't a Madonna situation," DeGraff said. "But there
were simulated gyrations."
Spears also did a medley of the previous hits "I'm a Slave 4 U" and
"... Baby One More Time."

Britney: Wedded To Shopping
JENNIFER Lopez and Ben Affleck
canceled their Santa Barbara wedding, but invitee Britney Spears showed up
anyway - and proceeded to shop until she dropped. Merchants across the city
said Spears, who stayed at the Four Seasons Biltmore under an assumed name,
was everywhere last week, turning up at coffee houses, bars, cafes and
clothing stores - especially Nordstrom. "She was in the store for
hours," Carla Ajan, a Chanel saleswoman at Nordstrom, told The Post's
Howard Breuer. Ajan said Spears wore brown velour sweats, pink flip-flops, a
white T-shirt off the shoulder with no bra and "an ugly, weird hat."
Although Ajan said Spears was OK, others said she snootily refused autographs
and pictures. "I asked her for an autograph," said salesman Robert
Velasquez. "She said, 'No, I'm busy shopping.' " Shoe salesman
Vincent Thomas said Britney reluctantly scribbled an autograph on his business
card, but he was too turned off by her attitude to tell his girlfriend, a
Britney fan, about it. "I'll let her hold on to her fantasy that Britney
Spears is as nice as she appears to be on TV," Thomas said.

Britney Spears Shocks Vegas, Performs
Unexpectedly At Casino
Partygoers hit the jackpot at the
Palms hotel-casino early Sunday morning when singer Britney Spears hit the
stage unexpectedly.
The pop star, along with a group of
dancers, belted out three songs from her upcoming album at the popular Rain
nightclub.
"We tried to keep it a
secret," said Rain co-owner Scott DeGraff of the Chicago-based N9NE
Group. "We wanted to make it a surprise for people. I know people were
shocked. No one knew."
Her performance began about 1 a.m.
and lasted thirty minutes.
Not only did the 1,800 people inside
Rain get an up close look at Britney, DeGraff said, but they also saved
hundreds of dollars a piece. The nightclub did not charge extra for the
Britney bash.
DeGraff said MTV was also on hand to
film Britney, as were a number of celebrities in Las Vegas for the big boxing
match between Oscar De La Hoya and Shane Mosley at the MGM Grand.
"It was just a crazy
night," DeGraff said. "The place was just mobbed." lasvegassun.com |
Britney Restrains "Big Fan"
Oops, he did it again...and now he's
gonna pay.
Britney Spears went back to court
this week to get a restraining order against a Japanese man she claims has
been stalking her, her reps confirmed Friday.
Spears was granted a restraining
order on Monday against Masahiko Shizawa, a businessman who has allegedly been
too much of a slave 4 the popster.
This is the second time Britney has
been forced to sic her legal eagles on Shizawa.
Earlier this year, she retracted her
initial request for a restraining order after she reached an out-of-court
agreement with the man in which he promised to stop calling and faxing her
with remarks like "I'm chasing you."
But, according to Camp Britney,
Shizawa "violated the terms," forcing her to obtain a permanent
restraining order.
According to a publicist for Spears,
the 43-year-old Shizawa has not given up his fixation on the 21-year-old
Madonna smoocher. In recent months, he has resumed faxing and writing notes to
the platinum popster.
In one missive, Shizawa writes,
"There remains serious personal issues to be resolved [between us],"
according to the syndicated TV show Celebrity Justice. Another message reads,
"I hope to find a job around her."
Such evidence was enough to sway Los
Angeles Superior Court Judge Alan B. Haber, who barred Shizawa from contacting
Spears and coming within 300 yards of the entertainer. The judge has set a
court date to decide whether to make the order permanent on Sept. 29.
When Spears first lashed out at
Shizawa last December, the man's attorney, Simon Robert Hiller, maintained
that his client has been mislabeled a stalker, when in fact the intimate
letters, photos and unsolicited visits were the actions of an "avid
fan" and said the request for a restraining order was the result of a
"cultural misunderstanding."
The so-called misunderstanding
included, according to Britney's peeps, Shizawa "tracking" Spears
beginning in September 2002, shadowing her from her homes in Los Angeles,
where he allegedly tried to bust in, and New York to her divorced parents'
domiciles in Louisiana, all the while sending her hundreds of love letters and
photos.
Since Spears filed her original
request, Shizawa's visa has expired and he has been forced to return to his
hometown of Yokohama, Japan. Hiller, who called his client a "smart
guy," said the computer programmer hopes to return to the U.S. once his
legal woes are resolved.

Britney's Next CD, "Hot or
Not?"
Former teen pop queen
Britney Spears may have more than just a kiss in common with Madonna—like
declining record sales. Spears’s fourth album, tentatively due in stores in
mid-November, will likely be one of the holiday season’s biggest sellers.
But early handicappers say expectations are much lower than for both 2000’s
“Oops! I Did It Again,” which sold 9.1 million copies, and even for her
2001 follow-up, “Britney,” which sold less than half that.
INDUSTRY WATCHERS PREDICT that this
year’s album, which Spears has described as “very moody,” could fare far
worse. “Maybe her newness has worn out,” says Greg Mize, spokesman for
Handleman Co., which distributes music to more than 2,700 Wal-Mart and Kmart
stores. “I suppose it depends on how you measure success. There’s still
excitement around her.”
There’s still excitement around
Madonna, too, but that didn’t help her most recent album, “American
Life,” which debuted at No. 1, then plummeted. (The album has sold only
578,000 copies to date, and a ho-hum Gap ad hasn’t helped matters.) It’s
too soon to be sure how Britney’s new album will do, but in the meantime
she’s staying busy weaving Madonna-esque mystique. In a recent interview on
CNN, she spoke fondly of her girl-on-girl smooch before declaring her
unwavering trust in George W. Bush and his war efforts. Sounds like somebody
who isn’t quite sure who her audience is.

Lynne's Corner Update: "End of
Summer, New Beginnings"
Summer is officially over. Britney's
work on promoting her new CD has gotten underway with her performance at the
VMA's, an NFL Kickoff appearance and numerous magazine covers. Look for
Britney in the upcoming editions of Rolling Stone, Esquire and Glamour.
The first single is coming out soon with a surprise for everyone (including
me, somewhat)! Britney is eager to get her show on the road. Vacation is nice,
but short lived at 21 years old. I never think I have enough time with her,
but they all say I whine too much. Oh well!
At least there isn't a boyfriend in the picture that I have to compete with---
yet!
Britney will be in Los Angeles soon. We should have almost a week together
before JamieLynn and I head back to Louisiana. It's time for JamieLynn to hook
up with her junior high school cheerleading squad at home. Britney and Bryan
might not get to see many games this year because of their hectic schedules.
JamieLynn and I love Los Angeles, but it feels so good to go home to who and
what we know and love best.
