Lynne's Corner Update: "Update from Sunny California"
The Nickelodeon world is fun. Jamie Lynn loved her first week and is now into her second as the youngest cast member on the show "All That." Jamie Lynn and I love the "read-throughs" on Monday mornings. The skits are really funny. Everyone seems to get off to a good start together. They’ve gone out of their way to make us feel at home.

Last week Jamie Lynn, her friend from home, Sara, and I bought a few things for Jamie's dressing room. It's fun decorating when you take it slow and wait for just the right thing to hit you. Jamie Lynn doesn't spend much time in the dressing room, because she's either practicing skits or playing foosball downstairs. Britney's good at ping pong, but Jamie Lynn will beat her at foosball.

Britney is in the middle of her tour. No more power failures! Crowds are still wild. Her last few days off, Brit spent in the water on jet skis. Next week is the 4th of July holiday. Bryan will be on a beach in Florida with Lauren and some friends. Hopefully, the rest of the family will be on some quiet remote beach area as well.

Jamie, Jamie Lynn, Sara and I went to Venice beach this weekend. We had so much fun watching the bicycle and skateboard contests. We walked to the beach to lay out after the contest. The sun was warm, yet there was a cool breeze. Later that evening, we needed sweaters. All of us thought how great it was to come home with a beautiful tan and not be dehydrated.

Jamie Lynne and I hated to see her Dad and Sara leave for home. I know it can be pretty boring being stuck with "Mom" 24/7. Dad's at home, Bryan's in New York, and Britney's everywhere. At least she will be with us soon. It's more fun sharing good times with friends and family.

Behind The Scenes Of The "In Style" Cover Shoot

The issue: July 2002

The settings: Independent Studios, New Orleans, May 1. Her home in Kentwood, La., May 2nd.

Hair: Hairstylist Philip Carreon used Spears's natural curl to his advantage to create loose, beachy hair. "It looked piecey, like when you've been at the beach all day," says Carreon. When she arrived he applied Kérastase Oléo-Relax to help smooth her damp hair. Then he added a palmful of Rene Furterer mousse. After separating her hair into sections and blowing dry with a round brush, Carreon rolled the sections into big pin curls, leaving the ends sticking out. After removing the pins he ran some Sebastian Laminates gel through her hair to help separate it.

Makeup: "I played up Britney's tan (which she had from a recent trip to Florida) with beautiful creamy pinks," says makeup artist Collier Strong. Before adding color he prepped Spears's skin with Prada Soothing Mask, then misted the line's Soothing Concentrate all over her face. Next Strong used a bit of L'Oréal Air Wear foundation to even out her color. On her eyes and cheeks he applied two blushes by MAC: Cubic (a soft muted pink) was brushed all over, and Reed (a plum-brown) was used to contour eye creases and hollows of cheeks. The final touches included several coats of L'Oréal Voluminous mascara in black and La Mer lip balm.

Wardrobe: For the cover shoot, stylist Kim Chandler packed the clothing racks with chic suits and sexy dresses by Dolce & Gabbana, Christian Dior and Gucci. The dress code for Spears's at-home shoot, however, was much more casual. She donned bathing suits in the pool, romantic tops with jeans, and her own pajamas in a few shots.

Shakira On Britney Spears: 'She's A Doll'
Contrary to persistent rumors of a feud between her and Britney Spears, Columbian singer Shakira continues to reassure fans that there is nothing but healthy competition between the two stars.

"There's enough space for everybody, and she's really great at what she does," Shakira says. "And I think I'm an expert at what I do, too, so as long as, you know, there's people around always making good music and bringing it to people's hearts, I think it's all worth it."

Shakira and Spears have met in the past. "I love her--she's a doll! I met her and she's really sweet, so I wish her the best," Shakira adds.

Shakira spent a couple of days in Canada earlier this week, and she did not leave empty handed. She won two 2002 MuchMusic Video Awards on Sunday (June 16th): best international video and people's choice for favorite international artist.

Shakira's debut English-language album, Laundry Service, has been certified triple-platinum by the Recording Industry Association Of America, and it sits at Number 21 on the Billboard 200 this week, down eight spots from last week.

Britney To Star In NASCAR Film
The rumors are true. Britney is going to star in a NASCAR film, set to begin shooting early next year. The movie will be a realistic portrayal of life in NASCAR, filmed on location with real races and drivers. Although the character and script hasn’t been totally nailed down, Britney will play the daughter of a NASCAR vet who is considering a return to the track.

According to NASCAR, they chose Britney because she embodies the All-American Southern girl (tell us something we don’t know!). As Producer Ann Carli told CNN, "It is not just about winning -- it's about family, perseverance and the belief that any dream is possible."

Britney Spears Tops Forbes' 'Celebrity 100' List
She's "not yet a woman," but Forbes magazine crowned pop princess Britney Spears as the world's most powerful celebrity on Thursday, dethroning movie star Tom Cruise from the No. 1 spot he held last year.

The seemingly ubiquitous 20-year-old singer from Louisiana tops Forbes' annual "Celebrity 100" list, which combines earnings with media exposure to calculate the relative status of entertainers, athletes and other famous people.

Spears, who heralded her own coming of age in the recent hit "I'm Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman," actually ranked No. 25 in terms of money-making clout, earning an estimated $39.2 million during the past 12 months. "Star Wars" director George Lucas was the leading breadwinner on the list at $200 million.

But what she lacked in income, Spears more than made up for in terms of magazine cover stories, television and radio appearances, Web hits and overall media coverage.

Forbes managing editor Dennis Kneale noted that Spears has graced his magazine's own cover twice in the past two years.

Cruise, who was No. 1 on the list last year and stars in the much-anticipated Steven Spielberg sci-fi action film "Minority Report," did not even make the cut this year.

Kneale said that was due in part to Cruise deferring his payment for the film beyond the 12-month time frame measured by the magazine for this year's list.

Cruise's ex-wife, actress Nicole Kidman, however, ranks No. 27 on this year's list. "We just totally side with Nicole," Kneale joked.

Rounding out the top 10 were golf champion Tiger Woods, director Steven Spielberg, pop superstar Madonna, Irish rock group U2, boy-band sensation 'N Sync, songstress Mariah Carey, talk show queen Oprah Winfrey, basketball star Michael Jordan and actor Tom Hanks.

Former U.S. President Bill Clinton also figures prominently on the list, at No. 18, thanks in large part to considerable earnings on the lecture circuit. Forbes estimates Clinton grossed a whopping $25 million during the past 12 months.

CLINTON CHARISMA

"He can earn more money in a single year making speeches than he made in his eight years as president," Kneale said. "Bill Clinton just continues to amaze and fascinate the American public. ... The guy's always had superstar charisma that goes way beyond mere politics."

Fellow pastured politico, former New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, ranked No. 43 overall, owing chiefly to his hero status in the wake of the Sept. 11 attacks.

All three actresses on the hit TV comedy "Friends" made the list -- Jennifer Aniston at No. 28, Lisa Kudrow at No. 59 and Courteney Cox-Arquette at No. 68 -- but Aniston's movie star husband, Brad Pitt, was a no-show this year.

In the literary corner, Stephen King remained the top-grossing author with $52.4 million (he ranked No. 8 on the earnings scale and No. 14 overall), followed by Tom Clancy, who earned $47.8 million and ranked No. 22 overall.

Best-selling novelist Mary Higgins Clark out-earned British children's author J.K. Rowling, $43.6 million to $41.8 million, but the creator of the "Harry Potter" books was higher in the celebrity standings, No. 34 vs. No. 47.

Other entries of note include heavy metal rocker Ozzy Osbourne and his clan (No. 85), whose reality TV show has given MTV its biggest hit, while celebrity chefs Wolfgang Puck and Emeril Lagasse ranked Nos. 79 and 80, respectively, despite the latter's TV flop last season.

Tennis star Venus Williams ranked higher (No. 60) and earned more ($11 million) than her sister, Serena Williams (No. 72, $8 million). And while NBC late-night star Jay Leno gets TV higher ratings, Forbes ranked his CBS rival, David Letterman, higher in overall stature (No. 23 vs. No. 41) and in money ($32 million vs. $20 million).

Britney's Sis Joins Cast of 'All That'
Nickelodeon's popular sketch show "All That" is adding an eighth cast member for the upcoming season, and you may have heard her name.

Or at least her last name. Jamie Lynn Spears, the 11-year-old sister of Britney Spears, will join the seven other kids in the cast beginning this fall. Production on the new season starts this week.

"All That" has been on Nick for seven seasons, acting as a kids' version of "Saturday Night Live." The show has launched the careers of Nick Cannon ("Men in Black II" ), Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell ("Good Burger" ) and Amanda Bynes, who stars in the upcoming WB comedy "What I Like About You."

Jamie Lynn Spears has appeared on camera before -- she had a cameo in Britney's movie "Crossroads" and on her sister's HBO concert special last year. Jamie Lynn also seems to be following a similar path to that of her pop-star sister, who first appeared on "The Mickey Mouse Club."

About 3.3 million kids watch "All That" each week. The best-known cast member to grownups is probably Kyle Sullivan, who has a recurring part as Malcolm's (Frankie Muniz) Krelboyne pal Dabney on "Malcolm in the Middle." The other cast members are Chelsea Brummett, Jack De Sena, Lisa Renee Foiles, Bryan Hearne, Shane Lyons and Giovonnie Samuels.

Is Britney Singing The Breakup Blues?
Is Britney Spears’ breakup with Justin Timberlake affecting her work? A backstage source at the belly-baring singer’s concerts says that the usually spunky, upbeat Spears has been in a “deep funk.”

“SHE HAS BEEN really depressed due to the breakup and just wants this tour to be over,” says the insider, who says that some of Spears’ handlers are upset that she hasn’t been interacting with fans more.

“There were even points during the show when she would not bother to lip-sync to the track the audience was hearing. . . as if she did not even care.”

The insider says that “all ties are now severed” with her former sweetie because last week Spears bought Timberlake’s share of the house they lived in.

But, the source adds brightly, “Maybe she’ll be able to sing about her breakup in her next album.”

Britney Spears: Exclusive First Peek Inside Nyla
Britney has more then just music on her menu. The pop princess is the proud parent of a brand new restaurant. “Extra” got an exclusive first peek inside Nyla, where New York and Louisiana come together.

Thirty-foot ceilings, comfy booths, and a floating second floor walkway highlight this midtown Manhattan eatery, located at the Dylan hotel.

Bobby Ochs is the co-owner of Nyla. He says, “Britney named the restaurant. The logo was designed by Britney by merely using her handwriting.”

Spears also influenced the fancy yet fun decor. She chose fabrics, colors and more. The food’s southern flair was inspired by Britney’s Louisiana hometown. You won't be able to taste these treats until the grand opening on June 27th. Ron Berkowitz is organizing the event. He says invites went out to Brad Pitt, Jennifer Aniston, Cher, Jennifer Lopez, and Sean “P. Diddy” Combs. Ochs says, “I did take a peek at Britney's personal invitation list. Justin Timberlake was on the list.”

Looks like Nyla will be music to Britney’s ears!

Spears Concert Won't Be Rescheduled
Britney Spears won't be able to reschedule her concert in Lubbock, officials at United Spirit Arena said Tuesday.

Her Friday night concert was canceled after two songs because of electrical problems.

Many young fans in a crowd of 13,351 left the arena in tears Friday after a power transformer failed.

Spears' promoter said she was disappointed that her schedule wouldn't allow her to return.

Tickets will be refunded beginning Wednesday.

Arena officials have a replacement for the malfunctioning transforme. Repairs need to be complete before a scheduled Eagles concert on June 28.

Spears' tour ends in Dallas on July 22.

Britney Spears: Transformation
Not that innocent: Britney Spears has changed from a little girl in oversize football jerseys and pink tube tops to a sexy young woman wearing designer togs by Roberto Cavalli, Chloe and Versace. Her album Britney, was introduced with a very steamy video for the song "I'm a Slave 4 U." The reigning teen princess continues to alter fans' impressions of how a young woman should look. "I'm going for an edgy but sophisticated look," she says. Plus, her teen years are over. Britney, who turned 20 last December, seems to be telling us something ... On Britney and in her current tour she sings Dido's song, "I'm Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman."

Stronger than yesterday: Since pairing up with stylists Kurt & Bart two years ago, Spears has shown off more of her famous body, with all seduction, all the time. "Britney is more self-confident, and she's definitely funkier," says Bart. She dared to be bare in a glittery bodysuit at the 2000 MTV Awards, and for last November's HBO concert (live from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas), Kurt & Bart put together a Bob Mackie bikini top and thong over their Mackie-inspired crystal beaded jeans. Says Bart, "Part badass, part star."

Spears Sick of Timberlake Talk
No matter where Britney Spears goes, she can't escape the reminders of her recent breakup with 'N Sync's Justin Timberlake.

"You go out to a club, and people say, 'Are you fine? Are you fine?' And it's like, 'I'm here, aren't I?'" the 20-year-old pop singer says in the July issue of InStyle magazine. "What if I was some weakling and I was like, 'Whaaa!' Crying!"

Spears says she and Timberlake, 21, split amicably: "We're climbing two different mountains. His priorities are different from mine right now."

After being friends since their Mickey Mouse Club days as kids, and three years as a high-profile couple, she says they still talk frequently. But she admits it wasn't easy seeing him photographed at a Hollywood club with a brunette.

"Of course it's gonna kind of hurt sometimes, and you wonder things," Spears says. "But you learn from it and grow. I'm trying to get to that point."
